Eligibility for Adjunct Promotion

To be considered for adjunct promotion, it is imperative to provide current official transcripts. It is recommended to carefully review the education and time in rank criteria for each promotion level. Meeting both the time in rank and education requirements is necessary in order to be eligible to apply. It should be noted that promotion levels cannot be skipped and must be followed in sequence.

Eligibility for promotion is based on time in rank and possession of the appropriate number of graduate credits beyond your degree. Adjuncts are reviewed for promotion in both the fall and spring semesters. All promotions become effective the following September 1.

The basic eligibility criteria are as follows:

For promotion to Adjunct Assistant Professor: 10 semesters and 39 teaching hours as Adjunct Instructor. The educational requirement is a master’s degree in the discipline. For faculty hired on or after 8/29/06, 6 graduate credits beyond the master’s in the discipline is required.

For promotion to Adjunct Associate Professor: 14 semester or 54 teaching hours as Adjunct Assistant Professor. The educational requirement is 18 graduate credits in the discipline beyond the master’s degree. For faculty hired on or after 8/29/06, 21 graduate credits beyond the master’s in the discipline is required.

For promotion to Adjunct Professor: 18 semesters or 69 teaching hours as Adjunct Associate Professor. The educational requirement is 36 graduate credits in the discipline beyond the master’s degree.

For promotion to Adjunct Professional Assistant P2: 14 semesters as Professional Assistant P1. The educational requirement is a BA plus 15 credits in the discipline.

Adjuncts with "special" credentials or professional experiences may also apply for a waiver of the educational requirements in order to be eligible for promotion to Adjunct Assistant Professor only.
