Online Education FAQs

Can I work at my own pace? No. Online courses follow the academic calendar and have due dates for assignments, discussions and exams. You will probably have weekly assignments. 

When can I register for online courses? Students can register during the same times as for traditional courses. The College does not have open enrollment. 

Are online courses easier? No. You can expect the same requirements in an online education course as you would find in an on-campus course. In addition to the coursework, you will need a high level of self-direction and time management skills. 

How can I be successful in an online class? 

Have a high level of individual motivation and self-discipline: An online student should be confident to ask his or her own questions instead of waiting for classmates to ask, and to contact the instructor and other students in the class for further assistance. 

Possess excellent time management skills and organization: Time must be carefully planned when taking an online course. Students must be responsible for meeting all deadlines. If you have difficulty keeping up with homework and assignments in an on-campus course, then online courses may be even more challenging. 

Have excellent reading comprehension and writing skills: In an online course, being able to communicate in writing with your instructor and classmates is critical. If you have difficulty with reading and writing skills, it may negatively impact your success in an online class.  

Be proficient with technology: An online student must be comfortable with technology. If you have difficulty installing programs or get frustrated with common technology problems, you may want to rethink your choice of an online course. Instructors may require students to install specific programs for their course.
