Veterinary Science Internship Site List
VST Internship Protocol and Site List
The VST Program has two 3 credit Internship classes, VST 203 and VST213, that are offered to students in their second year of the program. Students are required to reach out and secure their own internship placements at an official contract site. The contracted sites that are available for students to use to fulfill their internship requirements can be found in the list below.
Students should call the internship site contact provided and let them know of your interest in completing your internship at their facility. You must let them know your availability (per your assigned academic schedule) and plan a start date. If the internship site cannot accommodate you, then you need to move on to the next site on the list.
VST students MAY NOT intern where they are/or have been employed OR use any site that can be deemed a conflict of interest.
- No internship site can be used more than once for internship.
- Students are encouraged to complete each internship (I and II) at facilities that provide contrasting internship experiences (general practitioner, referral, emergency, research, large animal, exotic or rescue/rehabilitation).
Once you have confirmed the field site, hours, and starting date, you must provide that information to the VST Program office by calling 631-851-6946. You should also send confirmation email to the department assistant at gandols@sunysuffolk.edu. Your failure to notify the VST office of your chosen site as indicated may delay your ability to start your internship.
The office staff will prepare a packet of materials on behalf of the VST Program Coordinator to send to the field site you have secured to thank them for agreeing to accept you as a student intern. This packet will include the following material which students will learn about in class:
- Intern Attendance Sheet
- Internship Evaluation Form
- Internship Evaluation Rubric Form
- Certificate of Liability to cover the student practicum
Due to insurance protocols by the college, internship placement may commence the first week of classes, but not before. Support staff will also send an email to the students to inform them when the Internship packet has been sent to their selected field site.
