Student Clubs
Would you like to make the most of your time at Suffolk while broadening your culinary/hospitality experience at the same time? Student clubs offer unique experiences in your field that are selected, designed and carried out by students. Get involved and get ready to grow!
Culinary/Baking Club
The Culinary Arts/Baking and Pastry Club provides additional opportunities to explore the Culinary Arts and Baking/Pastry Industry through activities, field trips, and guest lectures. The club is open to all students at Suffolk County Community College interested in enrichment through Culinary/Baking Arts.
Recent club activities have included trips to cheese makers, farmers, vineyards, restaurants, and trips to New York City for the International Restaurant Show at Jacob Javits Center followed by a lunch at a Jean Georges restaurant, Mercer Kitchen. The club has also participated in Riverhead’s holiday decorating activities and the Riverhead Country Fair. Guest chefs often visit the club to showcase their talents and share their recipes.
The club has also sponsored student scholarships through student-organized dinners and fundraising activities.
American Culinary Federation
The ACFELI, INC. was founded by a group of Eastern Long Island chefs for the following purposes:
- To promote excellence, education, professionalism and collegiality in the culinary arts.
- To provide for education, scholarships, and other charitable purposes related to the culinary arts.
- To promote the welfare and prestige of the culinary arts, and of chefs and other culinary professionals and students.
- To promote friendship among its members, and a spirit of understanding, helpfulness, and cooperation among all members.
- To uphold the practice of ethics in the culinary arts.
The ACFELI is a group of culinary professionals including chefs, cooks, culinary educators, secondary and post-secondary culinary students, culinary enthusiasts and industry members. We gather together to promote great food, sanitation, nutrition and a standard in the culinary industry. We strive to bring to our members the newest trends in the industry, while instilling in our junior members the need to learn the basics of good cooking and baking skills.
Our monthly chapter meetings are based around food preparation and service. The ACFELI
provides culinary demonstrations and other cutting edge programming. We, as a chapter,
are dedicated to helping our members advance their culinary careers through education
and certification. The American Culinary Federation has taken our industry to a higher
level and continues to achieve excellence.
