PROCEDURES TO FOLLOW

If any situation appears to be a medical emergency, dial 911 to get help immediately. In addition, notify Public Safety on your campus of an accident involving injury or illness.

If the injury is life threatening, dial 911; then notify the campus nurse or, if the campus nurse is not available, notify Public Safety.

1. Provide the name of the person calling, the name of the individual requiring assistance (if known), the location of the individual, and the nature of the emergency, including whether or not the individual is conscious.
2. Someone must meet the nurse or Public Safety at an entrance of the building where the individual is located to guide him or her to the proper location. The nurse or Public Safety will evaluate the situation and call an ambulance if one is required. The nurse or Public Safety will also contact the Office of the Associate Dean of Student Services or the Evening/Weekend Duty Officer.
3. While waiting for assistance, remain calm, keep the individual comfortable and disperse crowds.

Individuals who sustain a minor injury on campus should be encouraged to consult with the campus nurse in the Health Services office on the respective campus.

If the individual is not able to go to the Health Services office, and the injury is not life threatening, notify the campus nurse or Public Safety and follow steps 1-3 above.

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT

Dial Public Safety or 911 from any telephone and provide the dispatcher with:

• Your name.
• Your location.
• Your telephone number.
• Description of any injuries.
• Number and description of vehicles involved.

If the vehicles are operational, move them out of the roadway.
Do not move any injured person. Keep the person calm and as comfortable as possible.
Remain with any injured person until emergency responders arrive.
Follow instructions of emergency responders.
