2017-18 Theater Season Announced

Suffolk County Community College is pleased to announce the 2017-18 theater season. Comedy, drama, and musical theatre are all included in this year’s offerings.

Carnival to Feria - Sol Y Sombra

Join Sol y Sombra, guest artist Quenia Ribeiro and her Brazilian dance company

for a concert of music and dance that celebrates the festive season that begins

with Rio’s Carnival and culminates with the famous Easter Feria of Sevilla, Spain.

Saturday, September 23 at 8:00 p.m.

Dracula

Circle Mirror Transformation by Annie Baker

When four lost New Englanders who enroll in Marty’s six-week-long community-center drama class begin to experiment with harmless games, hearts are quietly torn apart, and tiny wars of epic proportions are waged and won. A beautifully crafted diorama, a petri dish in which we see, with hilarious detail and clarity, the antic sadness of a motley quintet.

Fly Dance Company

Known as the Gentlemen of Hip Hop and labeled an artistic phenomenon, Fly Dance

Company’s concerts are a unique combination of entertainment – offering a high-energy, non-stop mix of hip-hop, classical and modern dance with an added touch of vaudeville. Enjoy wholesome artistry, designed to cross all audience boundaries, with pieces combining styles and cultures to reflect contemporary Americana.

Snowkus Pocus

Think Cirque meets The Nutcracker! Partake in a fully adaptable journey to a fantastic winter wonderland of circus spectacle and icy derring-do. See the Nutcracker guard juggle snowflakes and balance icicles. Award winning magician and host, Eric Walton, creates an afternoon of pure delight.

That Night Before Christmas

The Musical You Will Believe

A heartwarming, hilarious, soul-stirring story for the whole family. A stranger found sleeping on the rooftop days before Christmas, claims to be the one and only Santa Claus aka Kris Kringle. He is taken into custody and must prove he is telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth or there won’t be a Christmas. Colorful characters, memorable songs, and electrifying dances round-off this soon to be holiday classic. That Night Before Christmas is a-must-see for the entire family.

Harriet, Rosa and Me

This musical play tells the story of Hope, a high school student who skips school to avoid attending her Black History class. Hope encounters two women, Rosa (as in Parks)

and Harriet (as in Tubman). Together, they show Hope the importance of Black History and highlight women of color who have left their mark on history.

Wednesday February 21 at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Colors of India

Popovich Comedy Pet Theater

Entertainment for the entire family, featuring the unique blend of comedy and juggling skills of circus veteran Gregory Popovich and the extraordinary talents of his performing pets. See geese, white doves, parrots, and house cats and dogs that have been rescued from animal shelters!

The George Gee Swing Orchestra

The orchestra deeply enjoys its hard-earned reputation as the swingin’-est, blowin’-est, hippest classic big band in New York City. In more than 30 years of playing for dancing feet, the band has developed a special bond with lindy hoppers all around the world.
