Suffolk's J. Andrew Monahan and Steven Kuehhas Awarded Prestigious SUNY Chancellor's Award For Adjunct Teaching

Suffolk County Community College Adjunct Instructor of Business J. Andrew Monahan and Steven Kuehhas, an adjunct assistant professor of criminal justice were recently recognized by SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher with the 2015-2016 Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Adjunct Teaching. The Suffolk pair are among only 46 recipients of the prestigious award state-wide.

The Chancellor's Awards for Excellence are system-level honors conferred to acknowledge and provide system-wide recognition for consistently superior professional achievement and to encourage the ongoing pursuit of excellence.

"I am very grateful to receive the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Adjunct Teaching.  Having taught in the Honors Program for nearly my entire tenure at Suffolk, my remarks would be incomplete if I did not acknowledge the role Honors students have played in my growth as a teacher.  My students and I bring out the best in each other, and always retain it.  In the end, the most rewarding part of my job is transforming young lives.  There is no better profession than this, and it has been a great privilege," said Monahan who lives in Long Beach, NY.

"I am both honored and humbled by such a prestigious recognition. Throughout my twenty four years of adjunct teaching, my goal has always been to capture my students' imagination and attention as they begin their journey into my world as a career prosecutor. Real life drama unfolds before their eyes as our classroom transforms into a grand jury room, courtroom or crime scene. And as the semester comes to close, my students know that they now have me for life, a responsibility that I fully accept," said Kuehhas of Yaphank.
