The Alliance of Long Island Agencies, Inc. (Alliance) is an association of thirty-six (36) not-for-profit charitable agencies providing essential quality of life educational services to persons with developmental disabilities in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Member agencies provide services for more than 32,000 individuals and have more than 17,000 employees. Suffolk County Community College has partnered with the Alliance to offer two programs for agency employees that are funded by the New York State Department of Health.
The Direct Service Professional Credit Program (DSPCP)
This program is a collaboration between the Alliance, SCCC and NCCC and it is currently funded by the New York State Department of Health through the Health Worker Retraining Initiative. The DSPCP is a customized five-course college certificate program that links theory with practice for employees by Alliance member agencies who work with people with developmental disabilities on Long Island. Since its inception in 2001, more than 2,500 direct care workers have participated in the program.
The Career Ladder Supervisor Program (CLP)
This program is currently funded by the New York Department of Health through the Health Worker Retraining Initiative. Under the CLP, students completing the DSPCP are offered the opportunity to pursue an Associate’s degree in a variety of human services or related majors. The CLP is offered through Suffolk County Community College (SCCC) and Nassau Community College (NCC). Upon completion, students are likely to assume more responsible positions.
