John J. Foley, was a remarkable Suffolk County legislator who served his constituents for 18 years - advocating for labor, education and health-related causes. At the time of his retirement, Legislator Foley was the longest serving legislator in county history. He was replaced in the legislature by his son, Brian.

The former high school teacher turned Democratic committeeman started his career as an elected official on the Bayport-Blue Point school board and later became a town board member before he was elected to the legislature.

John Foley was dedicated to having government play a role in providing services for those in need. He always considered the residents of Suffolk County and what they faced as they raised their families. He acted forcefully and believed strongly in the importance of education. John Foley served as a trustee for our College, and was a member of both the BOCES board of education.

John Foley dedicated his life to public service, and we believe he would be honored by seeing those he knew and cared for so dearly, being asked to honor his memory by taking action to improve the communities we live in. Specifically by providing financial support for the John J. and Kevin Foley Family Scholarship.
