POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Announcement is hereby made for a full-time, tenure track Specialist 1 position beginning in the spring 2017 semester in the Nursing Department on the Ammerman Campus in Selden.

This is a Unit III position covered under the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement with the College.

 

Job Description:

Applicants should be well versed in nursing simulation. Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to the teaching and learning process and the use of varied instructional methodologies. 

 

Job Duties:

  • Operate low-medium and high fidelity human-patient simulators.
  • Establish and update policies with standard practices and accreditation requirements related to the use of simulation technology as necessary.
  • Develop, present, refine and evaluate scenarios utilized for simulation experiences utilizing role playing, props and dialog to create a realistic learning environment.
  • Develop new simulation experiences based on student, faculty, and program identified needs.
  • Serve as a resource for faculty utilizing simulation in classroom/lab activities.
  • Establish and maintain long-term plan for simulation maintenance, repairs, and purchase of new equipment.
  • Procure, maintain and replenish consistent equipment for student simulation scenarios.
  • Participate in identifying potential sources of funding for simulation enhancements and technologies.
  • Work with students who require remedial or additional assistance with meeting clinical learning outcomes observing their practice and when necessary, demonstrating or directing students to appropriate learning resources.
  • Active participation in departmental, campus and College committees/meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Academic Chair.
  • Demonstration of scholarly work in the discipline.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A Master of Science degree in Nursing is required along with a current New York State Registered Nurse license. Simulation operation experience in a nursing program or healthcare institution is required. Simulation operation experience in an Associate’s degree nursing program and or Certification in Healthcare Simulation Operation is preferred.



HIRING SALARY:

The exact salary will be determined by prior experience and placement on the salary scale negotiated by the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College.
