Announcement is hereby made for a full-time, tenure track appointment beginning the fall 2016 semester on the Michael J. Grant Campus in Brentwood.  Suffolk County Community College is an open admissions institution committed to serving a diverse student population in a variety of degree and career programs.


This is a Unit III position covered under the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement with the College.


Job Description:

The candidate must have the ability to teach a full range of courses (HVA111 - Computer Applications in Technology to HVA260 - HVAC/R Internship). This term teaching position reports to the academic chair. The successful candidate will teach a variety of HVAC technology courses. This person will interact with students and faculty to provide a comprehensive, integrated curriculum.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Teaching a full-time course load in HVAC technology, in accordance with descriptions published in the College catalog and the approved course outline;
  • Adhering to pertinent standards and regulations of the profession; and developing and maintaining awareness of these requirements;
  • Promoting the HVAC program and the profession of HVAC, which includes involvement in the college's open-house activities, as well as other program-promoting events;
  • Maintaining office hours;
  • Participating in activities related to program and college accreditations, which includes contributing to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) self-study and the college program-review processes;
  • Partaking in all levels of assessment activities, including the documentation of the successful performance by students of needed HVAC essential tasks;
  • Maintaining memberships in professional organizations;
  • Engaging in ongoing continuing education and professional development activities;
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the academic chair.

  • Engages in assessment of college-wide learning outcomes and demonstrates the use of the results of these assessments in courses.
  • Active participation in departmental, campus and College committees/meetings.
  • Academic advisement and curriculum development.
  • Demonstration of scholarly work in the discipline.



The Instructor/Assistant Professor for HVAC must have a Bachelor's degree in HVAC or a related field, with a Master's degree preferred.  Experience in college-level teaching is also preferred.



The exact salary will be determined by prior teaching experience and placement on the salary scale negotiated by the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College.
